Lance Corporal Jared Schmitz was a 20-year-old United States Marine from St. Louis, Missouri and one of 13 American service members who died in the attacks in Kabul, Afghanistan, on August 26, 2021. He will always be remembered as a true American hero who had always wanted to serve his country. Schmitz had only been in Afghanistan for 2 weeks to assist with the evacuation efforts before the deadly airport bombing.  Mark Schmitz, father of the Marine, revealed that he was notified at 2:40 a.m. that his son was killed in Thursday’s terror attack.

Join the Tradition Shirt Company as we partner with Jared’s father, Mark Schmitz, and TheFreedom13.org to help honor our American Heroes and support not only our Veterans as they transition back to civilian life, but their families too.

This past February 22, 2022 would’ve been Jared’s 21st birthday, and to honor his son’s service, sacrifice and memory, Mark and TheFreedom13.org had the First Annual Jared Schmitz Memorial Pub Crawl, a nationwide effort to raise awareness and funds.

Throughout the day, over 190 bars and restaurants across the US participated, buying Jared a drink for his birthday, with the full cost of the drink donated directly back to TheFreedom13.org. So far, over $190,000 has been collected!

 Our Part

We’re partnering with TheFreedom13.org to helk in 2 ways:

  1. We’ve created The Freedom 13 Collection, a colletion of tees, hoodies, hats and more, with $13 from each tee shirt, hoodie and hat (and a minimum of 13% of all other items) going back directly to TheFreedom13.org.
  2. Promoting “Raise a Glass on the 13th”, a simple way to keep the momentum going until next year’s Pub Crawl.

TheFreedom13.org

The Freedom 13 was started in 2022 in memory of Marine Lance Corporal Jared Schmitz, KIA Kabul Afghanistan on 08/26/2021. Mark (his father) and Jaclyn (his step mother) have been married since 2010 and have a family of 5 (3 sons, 2 daughters). Mark owns a successful photography/videography/drone business and Jaclyn is a top producing insurance representative. With the loss of their son; their new mission in life has shifted to try and take care of as many veteran service members as they can.

The Freedom 13 nonprofit 501c(3) has been setup as another organization to aid US military veterans with another resource on their journey to leading a full productive civilian life. We aim to strengthen the bonds they share with their families and other veterans as well as help them rediscover themselves.

Here is a brief list of the opportunities and programs that TheFreedom13.org organization focuses on to help our veterans:

  • HOMES - Housing the Homeless
  • RECREATIONAL RETREATS - Giving Vets a place to go to get away
  • PTSD - Working with existing organizations to help with mental health
  • SERVICE DOGS - Working with existing organizations to help with mental health through service dogs
